This is a fairy story and a good one at that. The picture and sound quality is very good and plays without any problems. When I first opened the DVD I thought I had ordered it in the wrong language! However, one would have to be made of stone not to be close to a watery eye from time to time!

Little things but they made the discerning reader more appreciative of the great comeback that Rainier really made - and would not have made without Paula's unconditional love.

Perhaps a touch old fashion but it still works for me on many levels.. It's one of those films where everything works.

Antony Doggett The story is captivating and holds your attention right to the end. Still,, I purchased for the film alone and I think it is a great movie that still has value and packs an emotional punch. (To my knowledge things don't happen quite like this in real life, but so what?.) Strong story and very romantic. Recently re-read the book again, skipping some of the details to focus on the nitty-gritty.

I recall the film from my early childhood when I had the notion that marriage between a man and a woman could return a sort of perfect happiness. It's the kind of film that the phrase, "They don't make them like that anymore" perfectly describes. It was directed by Mervyn Leroy. It was an American production but was set in England (as viewed by Americans) so penniless people have no trouble finding a warm and cosy cottage in the deep midwinter and all their neighbours are luvverly.

I had not seen this film before , but I was extremely impressed with the unusual nature of the film and the plot. And the shortened scene at the tobacconist shop took out Charles' stammering and facial contortions as he tried to speak. The directors had to save some time somewhere, I know but the viewer lost out on some of the humourous posturing of Rainier's silly, selfish siblings - as they insisted they must include him in the inheritence but then were so disappointed when he finally caved in and accepted - though we know he truly did not care about the money. Here his direction is spot on, never letting the sentimental material get too maudlin or melodramatic. Some bonus material would have been nice but I am pleased to have added it to my collection.

Colman and Garson are well cast in the principle roles, both with impeccable diction and controlled emotions.

It was an enormous hit, the third biggest-grossing film of 1943 and made back four times its high production cost.It got the full MGM treatment, given their best production team. A beautiful old weepie with an unlikely plot, but the ending always moves me to tears. I was very pleased with the goods. 1-month free trial!

Firstly this is a Korean import so the information on the back is in Korean and there are Korean subtitles but these are easy to get rid off, you just go into the language section and select no subtitles. Fast, free delivery. studio at it's finest, it is beautifully made, the camera work and design are a magnificent example of the high gloss style for which the studio was justly famous.One of the best films I've ever seen (Region 1 version has subtitles) I was looking for the differences and found that the conversation of our Charles Rainier with the tobacconist was stream-lined a little - nothing wrong with that; and the conversations at the house in Stourton about Charles reappearing and the will his father left were also edited down. Bought for my Dad.

It's all very sad and it's left until the very last minute for us to find out whether love will conquer all.
