The Marrow Thieves, her fourth novel, won both the Governor General's Literary Award for young people's literature — text and the Kirkus Prize for young readers' literature in 2017. But what they don't know is that one of them holds the secret to defeating the marrow thieves. It’s really a story of revenge and how does that open your eyes? People have forgotten how to dream, and this dreamlessness is slowly driving them mad. The Marrow Thieves was kind of an impulse read. Back on Day One, Black championed The Marrow Thieves as a hopeful book that acknowledges the power of the youth voice, and the importance of hearing Indigenous stories and understanding Canada’s original injustice.

It was a finalist for the White Pine Award, the Trillium Prize and The Swartz Award and was a selection for CBC’s 2018 Canada Reads.
