Ft. Walla Walla is much more than that. The Entrance Building and Galleries feature dynamic exhibits, artifacts, and an admission-free Museum Store filled with books, heritage gifts, traditional crafts, old- fashioned toys and gourmet foods.

The origins of Walla Walla at its present site begin with the establishment of Fort Walla Walla by the United States Army here in 1856. Not muchIt was a warm day and we were grateful for the air conditioned exhibits.

Fort Walla Walla Museum tries to display a wide and diverse history, from the history of the Fort itself, horse-era agriculture, and the general history of the Walla Walla Valley and surrounding areas.

I liked how everything was spread out so you could see things well-away from other people and go at your own pace and talk freely. Lots of history, tradition and culture.

We now have made it more clear on our website that we are indeed closed at this time. Ft. Walla Walla is much more than that. We are still closed but hope to be reopening as soon as Walla Walla County hits phase 3 of Washington's Safe Start plan. There are special programs and events held on the Museum grounds all year, so there is always something new happening at the old fort.Five exhibit halls showcase the history of the Walla Walla Valley, including Lewis and Clark's journey through the region, a history of Fort Walla Walla, the Lloyd family's Indian artifact collection, horse-era agriculture, transportation, textiles, a rotating special exhibit and more.

A relatively eclectic collection of historic items from the Fort and the area around Walla Walla.

Plan on spending a good few hours here. 4.4 of 5 stars. We called it the museum of sadness because we’re sad we can’t get back the time we spent here, it did give us an appreciationMuseums do try to evoke strong emotions in their guests, but we are sorry that we evoked only sadness in your case.

If you visit our area again, please consider visiting Kirkman House Museum, Whitman Mission, Tamastslikt Cultural Institute, or any of the other musuems and historic sites of the region.

My only problem was that some of the items were mixed so after I read the story I couldn't tell which belonged to the veteran from the story. The Museum features a 17-building historic pioneer settlement, beautiful gardens, and five sprawling exhibit halls housing thousands of artifacts.

As well as an outdoor set up with several houses, a school, blacksmith shop--that sort of thing.

Clean, well kept, great local history of the early Walla Walla military camp.

A good 3 hour history lesson.

I recommend the World Wars display, specifically the WW2 room.

It tried to describe what happened, fell very short, but, at least gave it a try. Just wondeful for the person who enjoys early Washington Territory history.
