Now I’m no prude and I expect a goodly amount of foul language including f-bombs and actual profanity in a crime novel given the type of characters involved but I thought it was just a bit overdone here. 3.5 STARS - I bought a copy of Elevator Pitch with only a basic idea of the premise, but with the online buzz (and Stephen King's kudos) I thought it was a safe bet for this avid suspense reader. Linwood Barclay is my favorite author! But what if it isn’t? I don't consider myself a prude but I found the language off-putting. (I also found it very funny, which likely says something about my own character flaws.) Easy read. Big Barcley fan so anything he writes I buy.. Good variety of characters. Book review: Elevator Pitch by Linwood Barclay. Then an elevator plummets from a high floor to the lobby. I thought this book had all of the usual great writing by Mr Barclay and the usual great editing you find in most professionally published books and a fine caste of very well developed characters although many of them were not very nice or likeable and unfortunately the only one I really liked met an untimely and gruesome end. I liked this latest offering by Linwood Barclay, one of my favourite authors, although I don’t think it is one of his best books. I thought this book had all of the usual great writing by Mr Barclay and the usual great editing you find in most professionally published books and a fine caste of very well developed characters although many of them were not very nice or likeable and unfortunately the only one I really liked met an untimely and gruesome end. And it’s working. The book starts off with a bang … or a terrifying splat (to be more accurate) and things take off from there. I've always loved Linwood Barclay books (think, Promise Trilogy) so I was just a little bit disappointed that after waiting so long for this new release, it wasn't the page turner that I'd expected.
