Not to say this movie does not take a few scenes out of other films, but so did "Airplane" and "Top Secret".

And I still quote lines from the movie with my friend who was there to watch it with me. Admit it! I show it to everybody I know! All white people must leave." Still, it did have a rather original plot of the haunted lighthouse and the zombies that wore turtlenecks and said "what difference does it make?" My "children" who now range in ages 33-41, still quote from this movie. It makes the movie just silly but what is way worse is that there is something funny going on, a pun being uttered or whatever else, every 5 seconds or so in the movie.

When VCR's were the size of suitcases, records and cassettes were the only way to buy music, and the internet had yet to be invented. For fans of bad tv variety shows this movie is a must. My friend and I would rent it every weekend from video haven. If not see if they can get it for you. "No we're not zombies, we're loonies." The female lead is Cindy Pickett, who looks and acts so wholesome here that it's hard to believe she appeared in an earlier film, Roger Vadim's "Night Games," that was very erotic.

It also features a gaggle of supporting actors whose faces will be recognizable to anyone who watched movies and TV in the Sixties and Seventies or who watches TVLand today. A burned out writer retreats to a northwest town called Hellview to write the great American novel. It's a "funny every time!" enjoy. "Hysterical" IS pretty hysterically awful, but it does not quite fit in the category of Movies So Bad They're Good. It is a movie that gets funnier every time I see it. A different type of movie but oh so funny and well acted. Like everyone else here, I discovered this movie way back when on cable.

all in all if you do watch it i can honestly say you will enjoy it.......but you will probably have to be around my age (46) to get all the movie references. Hysterical has to be my all time favorite comedy, i must have seen it a hundred times at least and even now when i put it on and i hear the words....hi i'm frederick lansing glad you could join me.....i start to smile knowing whats coming next. I absolutely loved this film and am desperate to get a copy that i can watch!!!

Wish Netflix had this one! Yes, it stars the Hudson Brothers, those inoffensive pop products from the Seventies who were quickly forgotten in the Eighties. Granted the "Exorcist" scene did kind of take the cake as being the most funny in the film. My father was a great fan of the Hudson Brothers, 3 brothers who had a short-lived television show in the '70s. There really is no plot to describe. Bought a DVD that I am going to try to make copies of for my darlings. "YOU'RE DOOMED!" I've read most of the reviews and they seem to be quite mixed but like most things you either love it or you hate it and i have to say i love it.......i'm glad they brought it out on DVD in the end as my video was on its last legs although i don't think they should have added the far too long musical number. I remember the first time i saw this movie as a 16 year old boy just over 30 years ago, me and a friend rented it from the local video store one afternoon and most afternoons from then on. Maybe because of the mix of Marx Brothers ,Abbott and Costello , and Three Stooges, many younger people didn't understand them.

Since then, it holds a special place in my heart, but I did go back recently and watch it again and I still found it pretty amusing (so it isn't a matter of me favoring this movie for nostalgic reasons). ); but I will always remember how much fun we had re-enacting scenes from this film. Still, for the most part the jokes worked and like I said it had its own plot and was not simply a patchwork of scenes from other films. "Awwwww NO!"
