I feel it's about connecting with his true self but it feels like he didn't want to recall his childhood because of some tragic event and from then on he made a journey trying to ease the pain and escaping from himself but when he finally could connect, he connected to God and left the hurting life. The things that a person goes through in life are what shape them. The singer is talking about finding himself from the drama of life and he chooese to do that.. We can see him lifting himself from water.. But most likely it's talking about self sacrifice in life, and being careful not to lose your identity in the process.
